I See Your End
[Fin and Selene]

Fin walked down the streets of Midnight City, he had a little money in his pocket from working his small sideshow stand that day, it wasn’t much but it was enough to buy lunch. He poked around in the future trails of people, nothing really too interesting here, so he headed off towards the deli. It wasn’t far and it was the only place in this damned city he knew of that had cheap food. As he rounded the corner he saw the deli on the end of the street, and he licked his lips a little. He was starving, he usually only ate two meals a day so that he had enough money for rent at the end of the month, and this would be his dinner. As he passed by an alley he brushed a future trail that sent a shiver down his spine, that always happened when someone was about to die. He looked down the alley and saw the scene that was about to unfold, a girl, about his age, was taking a shortcut and a man shoved her against the wall. He was demanding money, when she didn’t pay he stabbed her and ran with her purse. Fin’s eyes widened and suddenly he didn’t feel so hungry anymore, he felt like he had to do something though. He tapped into the girl’s future trail, she was right down the street, he had to hurry. He rushed over to where the man’s future trail met the girl’s. He tapped into the man’s trail and as soon as he felt the physicality of the man’s future in his hands he began to change a few things. He delivered a solid punch to his stomach, then a right hook to his jaw, after that he broke the hand that the man would have stabbed the girl with. With each action he performed he could feel the stream of time changing, it made him a little dizzy but he fought through it and finally dealt the last blow that left the man unconscious. Then he stumbled over to the sidewalk outside the alley and rested against a wall.

Moments later the girl appeared on the street. Fin looked over at her as she approached the alleyway, she was beautiful. Her hair was a pitch black like the night sky without stars, and her eyes were a lapis lazuli blue. Her face was so fine and delicate he doubted even the finest artist could capture it perfectly. Yet even as plainly as he stared, she didn’t notice him and instead walked straight into the alley. Fin shook himself out of his reverie and turned down the alley to watch the scene he had created unfold, and unfold it did. As soon as the man drew his knife he was suddenly tossed around seemingly by thin air, and then before long he was out cold. Fin ran to catch the girl before she could fall to her knees. He felt a tear hit his arm. “Are you alright?” he asked. It was a trivial question really, he knew she was but somehow he didn’t really know what to say to her. “I-i don’t know.”, she stammered out. Then she looked up at him with those beautiful deep blue eyes and he saw recognition in them. “Y-your that boy that does the magic on Main Street.” she said. fin was surprised, she actually knew who he was? “Yea, uh that’s me.” he said, trying to smile. He knew his smile looked awful, probably completely awkward. The girl wiped her eyes and touched his face with her hand. “You saved me didn’t you?” she said. Fin’s entire face lit up a bright red. How did she, no she couldn’t have known, no one knew about his power, they all thought it was just cheap magic tricks, didn’t they? “W-what d-d-do you m-mean?” He stuttered. Her face lit up as soon as he spoke. “So it was you, and mother and father were right!” she said with a smile. Fin just knelt there looking rather flustered, he couldn’t seem to remember how words were formed. Then all of the sudden her arms were around him and she was hugging him. Fin relaxed a little, her hair was as soft as it looked and she smelled divine. “My name’s Selene.” she said. “I owe you a great deal my brave and valiant knight.” Fin hugged her back, “I’m Fin.” he said, and then helped her up. “And you don’t owe me anything Selene, I was just helping.” he replied. She giggled, and then placed a light kiss on his lips, before slipping around him and starting out the alleyway. “I hope that’ll do.” she called back. “I’ll see you again Fin.” and then she was gone. Fin stood there for ten minutes, two fingers touching his lips where she had kissed him. Finally, the owner of the deli came out to empty the trash and saw him there. “Hey Fin!” he yelled, “The hell are ya doin’ out here? Come inside and get somethin’ ta eat!” Fin shook himself out of his trance, “Uh yea sure Sampson, I’ll be in in a minute.” He made his way out of the alleyway and then tapped into Selene’s future trail where she would be walking tomorrow. He saw her walk down the streets towards Main Street, and then stop at his sideshow, and her future trail lingered there all day. He withdrew from the trail and smiled, she was right, he would see her again.
